Project introduction

Provision of housing aid for those people who receive public assistance but without permanent abodes for living and provision of loans on a lower interest rate for the low income receivers without permanent abodes in the Uva Province are being done under this project. Two programs are implemented under this project.

Area of authority

Eligibility to receive housing aid
01. Must be a permanent resident in the Uva Province.
02. Non-availability of a permanent House.
03. Non-obtaining of housing aid previously.
04. A receiver of public assistance over a period of 5 years or more.
05. Must be a prospective recipient approved by the Housing Committee.
06. Adequate construction  work should be done to receive the relevant financial installments.

Eligibility to receive housing loans
01. Be a permanent resident in the Uva Province.
02. Non- availability of a permanent house.
03. Non- obtaining of housing aid or housing loans previously.
04. Be a Samurdhi recipient or a low income receiver.
05. Must be a prospective recipient approved by the Housing committee.
06. Sufficient construction work should be done to receive the relevant installment money.

Steps in granting housing aid / loans
Step 01
Making an application to the Secretary to the Ministry

Step 02
Issue of application to the applicant

Step 03
Forwarding the application perfected by the applicant with the recommendation of Grama Niladhari and Divisional Secretary to the Ministry.

Step 04
Planning the applicants in order of priority and approving by the Housing Committee.

Step 05
Sending the approved application and the money to the Uva Development Bank of the area of the applicant.
       
Step 06
Forwarding to the Uva Development Bank the construction progress report with the recommendation of Grama Niladhari and Divisional Secretary to release the 2nd and 3rd installments.

 

Housing Aid Program

This program is implemented for individuals who receive public assistance for a period of 5 years or more. The applications forwarded with the recommendations of the Grama Niladhari and Divisional Secretary to the Housing Committee of the Province will be subjected to an eligibility evaluation . On receipt of the approval of the Housing Committee for granting housing aid, the approved recipients are given housing aid.
The amount of aid is Rs. 25000 and is released in three installments on the progress of  the housing construction. The recipients can obtain the relevant housing aid  from the branch of the Uva Development Bank of  the  area.

Benefits
The beneficiaries who satisfy the requirements can obtain a housing aid of Rs. 25000/- while the construction of the house can be done with the assistance of the Housing Society or with the assistance of free labour provided by neighbors.

Housing Loan Program
This program is being implemented for those individuals of low income and for the samuralhi benefit recipients. The application forwarded with recommendations of the Grama Niladhari and the Divisional Secretary will be subjected to a eligibility evaluation. On receipt of the  approval of the Housing Committee, the approved recipients will be granted housing loans.
The amount of loan is Rs. 20000/- and on the progress made on construction of the house. The loan will be released in three installments. The recipients can withdraw the relevant loan from the Branch of the Uva Development Bank of his area.

Benefits
Beneficiaries who satisfy guidelines can obtain a housing loan on concessionary interest rate and the house can be constructed with the assistance of Housing Society or with the free labour provided by the neighbors
